In 2024 the A2 between Bangor and Belfast carried about 35,000 vehicles a day at Cultra. If someone else caused your injury on that road, elsewhere in Bangor or at work, you can usually claim. This guide covers the roads, local work, the Ulster Hospital and how a claim is heard.
Start your free case reviewIn the Ards and North Down policing district, 7 people killed, 62 were seriously injured and 455 slightly injured on the roads in 2025, according to PSNI figures for 2025. The A2 to Belfast carried about 35,000 vehicles a day at Cultra in 2024, according to Department for Infrastructure counts.
DfI describes the A2 as a busy commuter route with over 5,000 vehicles an hour at peak times. In 2020 it added traffic signals at the Ballymoney Road junction near Bangor to improve safety. If another driver caused the crash, the claim is made against their insurer. Read how car and road accident claims work.
Yes, if your employer, or someone else at work, was at fault. Work in Bangor includes food production and light manufacturing on the Balloo Industrial Estate, from meat products to adhesive tapes.
In food production, wet floors cause slips, and cutting and mincing machinery can cause serious hand injuries. The Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1993 cover the condition of floors and walkways, and a breach can support a claim.

Most claims settle without a court hearing. If yours goes to court, claims worth up to £30,000 are currently heard in the County Court for the South Eastern division, which covers Ards and North Down. Larger claims go to the High Court at the Royal Courts of Justice in Belfast.
Bangor Community Hospital's minor injury unit is permanently closed, so for an injury that needs urgent treatment, go to the Ulster Hospital in Dundonald. It has a 24-hour emergency department, about 9 miles away by the A2. Check current waiting times on nidirect.
Both hospitals are run by the South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust, which holds the records. With your permission, we request them for you, as a medical record made soon after the accident is useful evidence.
No, but you can. Our Belfast office at 7 Donegall Square West, BT1 6JH, is about 14 miles from Bangor, around 25 minutes by car on the A2 outside rush hour. Most claims can also be handled by phone, email or video.
Dashcam footage, photos of the vehicles and the road, and the names of witnesses all help show who was at fault. Report the collision to the PSNI as soon as you can, and get the other driver's name, insurer and registration. On a busy commuter road, ask other drivers for their footage quickly, as it is often recorded over.
Bangor's courthouse closed in March 2013. Most claims settle without a court hearing, and we can handle yours by phone, email or video. If your claim does need a hearing, it would be in the County Court for the South Eastern division, and we tell you where and when in good time.
Report the accident to your supervisor and make sure it is written down, with the date, time and what happened. Get medical help, at the Ulster Hospital for anything serious or from your GP, so the injury is on record. Note the names of anyone who saw it, and photograph the floor or machine if you safely can.
You usually have three years from the date of the accident, or from when you first knew you were injured, if that is later. For a child, the three years start on their 18th birthday. It is still best to get advice early, while evidence such as CCTV and witness details is available.
No. There are no upfront fees. If your claim succeeds, the other side pays your legal costs and you keep 100% of your compensation. If it doesn't, our legal insurance covers the costs. Read how funding works.
