Craigavon, Portadown and Lurgan share a 24-hour emergency department at Craigavon Area Hospital, and the M1 has junctions at both Lurgan and Portadown. This guide covers the motorway and local roads, factory work, the hospital and where a claim from the area would be heard.
Start your free case reviewIn the Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon policing district, 5 people killed, 129 were seriously injured and 703 slightly injured on the roads in 2025, according to PSNI figures for 2025. In the 2025/26 financial year, the PSNI annual report recorded 10 road deaths in the district, more than in any other part of Northern Ireland.
The M1 has junctions at Lurgan (Junction 10), Ballynacor (Junction 11) and Portadown (Junction 12), and the M12 runs into Portadown. The eastbound stretch between Junctions 11 and 10 was resurfaced from July to September 2025, with overnight closures and a 50mph limit.
Off the motorway, the A3 links Portadown with Armagh and the A26 runs from Lurgan to Banbridge. Read how car and road accident claims work.
Yes, if your employer, or someone else at work, was at fault. Factories around Portadown and Craigavon process poultry and make medicines and other goods.
In food processing especially, injuries often come from repeated lifting and handling, and from knives and blades. The Manual Handling Operations Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1992 cover lifting and carrying at work, and a breach can support a claim.

Most claims settle without a court hearing. If yours goes to court, claims worth up to £30,000 are currently heard in the County Court, and civil claims from Craigavon, Portadown and Lurgan are usually listed at Armagh Courthouse on The Mall. Larger claims go to the High Court at the Royal Courts of Justice in Belfast.
Craigavon Area Hospital, on the Lurgan Road in Portadown, has a 24-hour emergency department. It is just over 2 miles from Portadown town centre and nearly 5 from Lurgan. Adults use the main entrance, and children are seen in a separate paediatric emergency department beside maternity. Check current waiting times on nidirect.
Your hospital records are held by the Southern Health and Social Care Trust. With your permission, we request them for you, as a medical record made soon after the accident is useful evidence.
No. Our nearest office is in Belfast, at 7 Donegall Square West. Lurgan is about 23 miles away and Portadown about 30, between 30 and 40 minutes by car. Most claims can be handled by phone, email or video.
Yes. In a rear-end collision the driver behind is usually at fault, and the claim is made against their insurer. Driving too close was the second most common main cause of injury collisions in Northern Ireland in 2025, after inattention, according to PSNI figures. Photos of both vehicles, and dashcam footage if you have it, help show what happened.
Yes, if the work caused it and your employer could have prevented it. Strain from repeated lifting or cutting, for example in poultry processing, can support a claim even though there was no single accident. The time limit usually runs from when you first knew you were injured, so note when the symptoms started and who you told, whether a manager or your GP.
Yes, if the driver was at fault, and the claim is made against their insurer. Note the exact crossing and the time, and take the names of anyone who saw it. Ask nearby shops and businesses to keep any CCTV straight away, as footage is often recorded over after a short time.
You usually have three years from the date of the accident, or from when you first knew you were injured, if that is later. For a child, the three years start on their 18th birthday. It is still best to get advice early, while evidence such as CCTV and witness details is available.
No. There are no upfront fees. If your claim succeeds, the other side pays your legal costs and you keep 100% of your compensation. If it doesn't, our legal insurance covers the costs. Read how funding works.
