Carrickfergus is linked to Belfast by the A2 Shore Road, and its salt mine and power station are at Kilroot, about 3 miles north-east of the town. If someone else caused your injury on the road or at work, you can usually claim. This guide covers both, plus hospitals and courts.
Start your free case reviewIn the Mid and East Antrim policing district, 2 people killed, 71 were seriously injured and 377 slightly injured on the roads in 2025, according to PSNI figures for 2025. The district also takes in Ballymena and Larne.
The A2 Shore Road is the town's link to Belfast. Between Jordanstown and Seapark, DfI widened 3.5 km of it from a single carriageway to four lanes, and the Greenisland scheme opened to traffic in September 2015. Towards Belfast, the route continues onto the M5 and M2.
Further along the A2, DfI planned resurfacing of the Coast Road at Ballycarry for 2025/26. If another driver caused the crash, the claim is made against their insurer. Read how car and road accident claims work.
Yes, if your employer, or someone else at work, was at fault. At Kilroot, a salt mine produces around 500,000 tonnes of de-icing rock salt a year. The power station there is moving from coal to gas, and a gas pipeline to it is under construction.
Mining brings risks from heavy plant and vehicles, and building work brings falls and moving plant on site. The Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2016 set duties for everyone who plans and runs construction work, and a breach can support a claim.

Most claims settle without a court hearing. If yours goes to court, claims worth up to £30,000 are currently heard in the County Court. Carrickfergus has no courthouse, and although the town is in Mid and East Antrim, its County Court business is usually heard in Belfast, at Laganside Courts.
Larger claims go to the High Court at the Royal Courts of Justice in Belfast. Paul Kearney, who leads the firm, is a solicitor advocate and former barrister.
Carrickfergus has no hospital emergency department or minor injury unit. The nearest 24-hour emergency department is at the Mater Hospital in Belfast, about 10 miles away by the A2 and M5. The Northern Trust's own emergency department, at Antrim Area Hospital, is about 19 miles away. Check current waiting times on nidirect.
Your records belong to the Trust that treated you: the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust for the Mater, or the Northern Health and Social Care Trust for Antrim Area. With your permission, we request them for you, as a medical record made soon after the accident is useful evidence.
No, but you can. Our Belfast office at 7 Donegall Square West, BT1 6JH, is about 11 miles from Carrickfergus, around 20 minutes by car along the A2 and M5 outside rush hour. Most claims can also be handled by phone, email or video.
Usually your employer, if the accident happened because of unsafe equipment or working methods. Large sites often have several contractors working at once, and if a worker from another firm caused the accident, the claim may be against that firm instead. Report the accident on site and note who was involved.
It doesn't stop you claiming, but it can make the injury harder to prove. If you didn't get to the Mater or Antrim Area on the day, see your GP as soon as you can and explain how the injury happened, so there is a record made close to the accident. Keep a note of your symptoms and any time off work.
It makes no practical difference. A crash anywhere in Northern Ireland is claimed here, against the insurer of the driver at fault. Claims from both towns that reach the County Court are usually heard at Laganside Courts in Belfast, and most settle without a hearing at all.
You usually have three years from the date of the accident, or from when you first knew you were injured, if that is later. For a child, the three years start on their 18th birthday. It is still best to get advice early, while evidence such as CCTV and witness details is available.
No. There are no upfront fees. If your claim succeeds, the other side pays your legal costs and you keep 100% of your compensation. If it doesn't, our legal insurance covers the costs. Read how funding works.
