Coleraine has its own 24-hour emergency department at Causeway Hospital, and its roads carry visitors to the Giant's Causeway as well as local traffic. This guide covers the roads, local work, the hospital and where a claim from the town would be heard.
Start your free case reviewIn the Causeway Coast and Glens policing district, 7 people killed, 94 were seriously injured and 450 slightly injured on the roads in 2025, according to PSNI figures for 2025.
Coleraine's roads carry visitors to the north coast as well as local drivers. The Giant's Causeway was one of Northern Ireland's three most visited attractions in 2022, according to NISRA figures published by Tourism NI.
In 2024 the A2 between Coleraine and Portstewart carried about 7,800 vehicles a day and the A29 to Garvagh about 5,800. On the Limavady side, the A2 Ballykelly Road carried about 15,000. Read how car and road accident claims work.
Yes, if your employer, or someone else at work, was at fault. Work around Coleraine includes engineering, such as powder coating, paint spraying and fabrication, and food processing, including dairy.
Food plants bring wet floors, packing machinery and repeated lifting, while coating and fabrication work means moving heavy steel. The Manual Handling Operations Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1992 require employers to reduce the risk from lifting and carrying, and a breach can support a claim.

Most claims settle without a court hearing. If yours goes to court, claims worth up to £30,000 are currently heard in the County Court for the North Eastern division, which covers the Causeway Coast and Glens council area. Larger claims go to the High Court at the Royal Courts of Justice in Belfast.
Paul Kearney, who leads the firm, is a solicitor advocate and former barrister.
Causeway Hospital on Newbridge Road, about 2 miles from the town centre, has a 24-hour emergency department and a minor injuries unit. Check current waiting times on nidirect.
Hospital records are held by the Northern Health and Social Care Trust. With your permission, we request them for you, as a medical record made soon after the accident is useful evidence.
Our Derry office at 26-28 Bishop Street is the closer of our two offices, about 30 miles from Coleraine and around 50 minutes by car. Most claims can be handled by phone, email or video, so you don't need to visit.
Yes. A crash in Northern Ireland is claimed here, against the driver's insurer, wherever they live. If the car is registered in the Republic or elsewhere outside the UK, the Motor Insurers' Bureau can trace the insurer from the registration number. If it was a hire car, note the hire company's name as well as the registration.
A County Court claim can be started in the division where the accident happened, which for Derry is the Western division, or where the person you are claiming against lives or works. Coleraine is in the North Eastern division. Most claims settle without a hearing, and our Derry office handles claims from both areas.
Yes, if a driver caused it, the claim is against their insurer. The shared footway and cycle path on the A29 Ring Road, from Cromore Road to Portrush Road, is now complete. Report the collision to the PSNI and note where on the path it happened. If a pothole or a defect in the path caused your fall, the claim may be against the Department for Infrastructure (DfI Roads).
You usually have three years from the date of the accident, or from when you first knew you were injured, if that is later. For a child, the three years start on their 18th birthday. It is still best to get advice early, while evidence such as CCTV and witness details is available.
No. There are no upfront fees. If your claim succeeds, the other side pays your legal costs and you keep 100% of your compensation. If it doesn't, our legal insurance covers the costs. Read how funding works.
