Newtownabbey sits where the M2 and M5 run into Belfast, and in 2024 the M2 carried about 52,000 vehicles a day at Old Manse Bridge. If someone else caused your injury on these roads or at work, you can usually claim. This guide covers the roads, local work, hospitals and courts.
Start your free case reviewIn the Antrim and Newtownabbey policing district, 7 people killed, 70 were seriously injured and 589 slightly injured on the roads in 2025, according to PSNI figures for 2025. That district covers Antrim as well as Newtownabbey.
In 2024 the M2 at Old Manse Bridge carried about 52,000 vehicles a day and the M5 about 32,000, according to Department for Infrastructure counts. The A8(M) spur from the Larne road joins the M2 at Sandyknowes.
If another driver caused the crash, the claim is made against their insurer. Read how car and road accident claims work.
Yes, if your employer, or someone else at work, was at fault. Newtownabbey's industry includes drinks production at Mallusk and aerospace manufacturing.
Production lines and factory machinery can trap hands or cause crush injuries when guards, maintenance or training fall short. The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1999 set the rules for machinery and other equipment used at work, and a breach can support a claim.

Most claims settle without a court hearing. If yours goes to court, claims worth up to £30,000 are currently heard in the County Court. Newtownabbey has no courthouse, so County Court business from the area is usually heard in Belfast, at Laganside Courts.
Larger claims go to the High Court at the Royal Courts of Justice in Belfast. Both courts are about a mile from our office.
Whiteabbey Hospital on the Doagh Road provides rehabilitation after a hospital stay, not emergency care. The nearest 24-hour emergency department is at the Mater Hospital in Belfast, about 9 miles from Whiteabbey and 8 from Glengormley. The Northern Trust's own emergency department is at Antrim Area Hospital, which also has a minor injury unit. Check current waiting times on nidirect.
Newtownabbey is in the Northern Health and Social Care Trust area, but if you were treated at the Mater, your records are held by the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust. With your permission, we request them from whichever Trust treated you.
No, but you can. Our Belfast office at 7 Donegall Square West, BT1 6JH, is about 9 miles from Newtownabbey, around 25 minutes by car on the M5 and M2. From Glengormley, the drive in on the M2 is usually shorter. Most claims can also be handled by phone, email or video.
Yes. As a passenger, you claim against the insurer of whichever driver caused the crash. That can be the driver of the car you were in, even if they are a friend or relative, because their insurance covers their passengers. Note the registrations of the vehicles involved if you can.
The Belfast Health and Social Care Trust, which runs the Mater, even though Newtownabbey is in the Northern Trust area. If you went to Antrim Area Hospital instead, the Northern Trust holds them. Requests are made in writing, and under nidirect guidance a Trust has one month to respond, or longer for complex requests.
You may still be able to. If your employer failed to provide safe machinery, training or supervision, they can be liable even if you also made a mistake. Where both sides were partly to blame, the compensation can be reduced to reflect your share rather than refused.
You usually have three years from the date of the accident, or from when you first knew you were injured, if that is later. For a child, the three years start on their 18th birthday. It is still best to get advice early, while evidence such as CCTV and witness details is available.
No. There are no upfront fees. If your claim succeeds, the other side pays your legal costs and you keep 100% of your compensation. If it doesn't, our legal insurance covers the costs. Read how funding works.
